Playing with Sidebar

I’m messing around with my sidebar a little to stuff more info into it and make it look a little different. Let me know if there is something that I change that you think I shouldn’t have or if you have any suggestions on ways I can improve it. Thanks for you patience during these little site tweeks.

Google AdSense

I’m going to give Google AdSense a shot. Not that I need to make any moola off of any of my readers (nor do I expect to), but I thought there was such a buzz about it lately, I would throw it on here and see what sticks. I guarantee I’ll play around with the placement a bit so don’t expect the ads to always show up in the same place twice. Hopefully they won’t be to bothersome… and maybe you can click on a couple here and there if anything grabs your fancy. ;)

Interruption averted

Well.. that was rather painless wasn’t it. Oh you didn’t notice? I’m on my new server. Can’t you tell how much faster and cooler it is? Of course not. Just thought I would let everyone know that the transfer is done.

Possible interruption

Not like I’ve been a constant stream of content, but I may be experiencing some down time here in the next couple of days. I’m moving all of my sites to a new server and there will be a period of transition when dns will be updating.

More Site Notes

RE: Earth Theme – Moved archives and links to their own pages and brought back the recent comments. The sidebar isn’t quite as long any more. Now I just need to make an “About” page and hook up the button to it.

Random Banners

Thanks to Jill, I now have 4 banners for the ‘Earth’ theme I’ve been working on. I slapped a little code in there to randomly choose 1 of the 4 to be displayed. See if you can figure out the hidden meaning of the banners and I’ll give you a free Gmail account… or I’ll just give you one if you ask, I have 50 for crying out loud.

RSS is now Burned

My RSS feed is now being massaged through FeedBurner. For those of you who already subscribe (if there is anyone) nothing will change for you, but any newcomer will be getting my FeedBurner RSS. What does this mean? Well basically with FeedBurner I can keep track of who views my feed, plus they have a cool way of integrating links from my newly activated ClipBlog from Bloglines. So we’ll see if this thing works out. The only drawback that I see so far is that my RSS goes through a third party now, but I’m not sure that it matters much.

Photolog is up

I found this awesome little gallery program called Coppermine. It is an open source project on SourceForge. Let me tell you, this is the coolest gallery program I have been able to find. I initially wanted something that would tightly integrate into WordPress but I quickly found that most of what was available required me to upgrade software on my server, which I wasn’t to excited about doing and the gallery features themselves weren’t that great.

Enter Coppermine. I found this mentioned in the WordPress forums and decided to check it out. And fell in love with it… Ok “love” may be too strong of a word, but I like it alot.

So BAM. Photolog is in. I may be messing with the theme, but I may also keep it as is. I like the look of it right now and it doesn’t bother me that it “looks” different from my main site.

The albums I put in are the same pictures I had up on my old site, but they are much more organized now. Now that I have this cool gallery though… who knows, I may just go crazy with the camera… or maybe not.

Return of the Menu Bar

Well I brought back my menu bar. It took a little work but I think it looks better than the original. You may notice that the Photolog and About options don’t take you anywhere yet, because neither one of those exist yet. I hope to get some sortof Photolog going to replace what used to be my Gallery, but I need to upgrade my PHP before I can use the software that I’m looking at using. For some reason, upgrading PHP makes me nervous. I’m afraid I’ll break something on my server since alot of my programs rely on PHP.

Anyone out there have experience with upgrading your PHP installation and can give me some advice?
