Introducing Google Talk

Google Talk

They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world.

So officially, Google, everyone’s favorite search engine and email client, is throwing its hat into the ring with other IM giants, MSN, AOL, and YAHOO. This puts Google one step closer to taking over the internet. Ok.. maybe not that dramatic, but they are definitely much futher than they were serveral years ago when all they were was a cool, search engine.

DataSets vs. Collections

How did MS know that I was starting to look into DataSets? I found this article just as I was getting ready to dive into DataSets and it was a nice read. So I thought I would stick it here just in case it helps out anyone else who may be jumping into this area of .NET.

System Administrator Appreciation Day

System Administrator Appreciation Day Friday July 29th 2005

Good thing I took today off to have a garage sale. I’m kindof a SysAdmin, by default really, because no one else in my office wants the job. ;) Anyway, hats off to all SysAdmins out there, their jobs are harder than anyone gives them credit for. Imagine how hard it would be for you to sit on the net all day and get paid well.

Heh heh. Just kidding of course.

WinVi in 18 hours

So I started the Windows Vista download yesterday afternoon and it is still going. I thought that if I left it overnight it would be done this morning, but, alas, I was wrong. It seems that there was a connection interruption, so it was waiting for me to resume the download after only 300MB of the 2.5GB was done. Oh well, good thing bandwidth is cheap right? Well at least at work it is. :) (Oh Chris, settle down, I’m just kidding)

.Net Training – Day 1

Well I started my .Net training today. Not much to post about, basically got a general overview of the framework and what value and reference types are and a little about reflection. Nothing too new. All in all it was a good introduction, not candy coated, MS sales promo stuff. So, for that, I am thankful.

If anything interesting crops up this week. I’ll keep you posted. But, as I have been the past few weeks, I may be a little incognito.

Check you on the flip side.

Egads, Crystal Reports

Anyone out there know how to create a hierarchical grid report with n columns and n levels of hierarchy?

I’m sure I’m not the first one to ever try and do this, but as I’ve often found, when I try to look for an example of this, I can’t find anything. Maybe there are some Crystal Reports gurus out there who happen to stop by every once in a while. If so, let me know if you have any thoughts on this problem.

Server Troubles

Well as some of you may have noticed. Some of my sites were/are down. My server was compromised by a phpBB exploit. I’ve temporarily killed all the sites that were using phpBB and I’m looking into upgrading them to “plug the hole”. Let me tell you though, that was frantic 2 hours yesterday when I was trying to figure out what was going on. But now that that is behind me for the most part. I can breathe a little.

Anyway… got some work to do.
