Dead Blog?

Apparently I am being chastised over in the comments of Avoiding Responsibility. There are claims that my blog is dead. Would you agree?

Sure I haven’t posted much lately, but it’s Quality over Quantity right?

Oh… wait… I guess that only works if you have Quality also.

Dang… I think I will write Haiku’s instead. :)

Random Banners

Thanks to Jill, I now have 4 banners for the ‘Earth’ theme I’ve been working on. I slapped a little code in there to randomly choose 1 of the 4 to be displayed. See if you can figure out the hidden meaning of the banners and I’ll give you a free Gmail account… or I’ll just give you one if you ask, I have 50 for crying out loud.

Earth Theme

So I’ve began making a new theme. I call it ‘Earth’. Don’t know why, I guess because it has some “earthy” tones to it. You can watch my progress if you would like by using the theme-switcher. Not all of my links and pages are are integrated into it yet so look out for “under construction” behavior.

Theme Switcher

Thanks to the WordPress Plugin Repository I now have a “Theme Switcher”. Currently there are only the two defaults and my “Whoppers” theme. But I think I’m going to start making a few of these. Maybe if they’re good enough, someone out there will even want to use it.

Update: I added a bunch of themes that I found. They need a little tweaking to get my site name in them. But I’ll get to that when I can.

WordPress Upgrade

I just upgrade WordPress to 1.5. Overall, wasn’t very hard to do. I did have to turn off a couple functions that seem to have changed (ie recent comments and recent entries). But I’m sure there are some logical replacements for those, I just need to figure them out.

One of the biggest differences is the fact that there are templates now. So rather than editing the live index file, I can create a seperate template to mess with and not screw up what already works. So maybe it is time for a change. I’ll have to do some thinking now.

Update: I fixed the two functions that I mentioned didn’t work. So now I think everyting is working.

Comment Spam

Well.. I am trying another trick to cut down on the amount of comment spam I’ve been getting. You are now required to type in a security code from a graphic when you post the comment. We’ll see how well that works out. I don’t know how smart these spammers are, maybe they can read those graphics. But I’ll try whatever I can to stop them.

Spam Karma

In an ongoing effort to thwart the rising influx of comment spam, I have installed Spam Karma. Hopefully this plugin makes my need to moderate less. The built-in comment spam tools in WordPress are lacking. I had to basically delete it myself. But this Spam Karma looks to be more promising.

I’ll let you know.
