Carve your own pumpkin

October 27th, 2005

Our good friend Jill (I would link to her blog but she DOESN’T HAVE ONE) sent me this link to carve your own pumpkin. It’s kind of fun. Too bad there isn’t some kindof export tool to save the image you come up with. Have a good time with this one.

Another Blog

October 26th, 2005

Hey, I finally got a “Wordpress.com” blog. It is http://arandomact.wordpress.com. Nothing exciting going on there. I think I’m just going to put observations about wordpress there. The Wordpress.com interface is pretty cool.. it is a little different then the vanilla install of wordpress.org. I haven’t figured out how to put my own themes in there yet. But I would be surprised if it wasn’t possible.

Anyway.. just thought I would let you know. Check it out from time to time. Maybe it will get interesting. ;)

Comcast vs Microsoft

October 20th, 2005
chat id :
Problem : E-mail/Can’t send E-Mail/Outlook Express
xxxxxxx > Thank you for contacting Comcast. My name is xxxxxxx. How may I help you?
Josh > I’m sure you’ve had this question alot, but when are the issues with MSN and Hotmail going to be resolved. It has been going on for a couple days now.
Josh > Most of my wifes contacts are on msn and she can’t email them and isn’t very happy about it.
xxxxxxx > I apologize for the inconvenience Josh. At this time we do not have any update on the problem. Microsoft is still working on fixing the problem with their mail servers.
Josh > So you have determined that it is Microsofts servers and not yours?
xxxxxxx > Yes, it’s been a Microsoft issue. They are blocking email from all Comcast customers unfortunately.
xxxxxxx > Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Did you have any other questionst at this time?
Josh > Is this on purpose? I only ask, because if so.. I would like to contact Microsoft
Josh > I just want to figure out where to take my frustrations :)
xxxxxxx > As far as we’ve been told it’s not being done on purpose.
Josh > Ok.. fair enough. I’m sure you know how annoying it is on our end.
Josh > Thanks for the info.. that’s all for now
xxxxxxx > Have a nice day. Thank you for contacting Comcast.
xxxxxxx > Analyst has closed chat and left the room

Lost Theories

October 14th, 2005

The topic of Lost is starting to heat up with everyone coming up with there own theories as to what is going on. Jon over at chuggnutt.com just wrote a long post about what makes of what is going on in the show. From what I read, some of his ideas seem to make a lot of sense.

Its been a while since a show has captured my attention like this one. It makes you think. I find myself trying to come up with my own theories of whats happening. Is the island some big social experiment? Why was there a quarantine sticker on the inside of the hatch door? What are your theories?

Trying out Qumana

October 13th, 2005
So I just downloaded Qumana, a blog editor, to give it a try. I’ve tried similar tools in the past and have always gone back to just using the plain old Wordpress interface. But this tool looks interesting and a little better built. So here is my first post from it. Seems simple enough. Looking at the interface, it looks like there are more features than just simply typing up your post.. so I’ll have to explore those.

Qumana Tool Bar

I’ll report on more features as I come across them. (P.S. Looks like it is pretty easy to add pictures to your post. That’s a bonus.)

Where’s that Java book now?

October 11th, 2005

<!– Begin Geek Speak –>
Well, time to dust off my Java skills. I was asked today to start working on a project here at work that will utilize a language that I haven’t touched in almost 3 years. But its Java, how hard can it be? It should be rather fun (I’m such a geek) to use Java again. Its the programming language that I learned in college at Western Oregon University but it has evolved quite a bit since then.

So we’ll see if I can hack it. I’ve been working with C# a lot lately and Java isn’t to far different. Wish me luck!

Movies based on Video Games: Good or Bad?

October 5th, 2005

I just got done reading an article about how Peter Jackson has just been hired to produce the movie Halo which is based on Microsoft’s extremely popular game of the same name. In that same article I found out that another movie, Doom, is being released later this year. That got us thinking here in the office. Has there ever been a Movie based on a Video game that was GOOD? What are your thoughts on this? Below, I’ve compiled a list of movies based on games, let me know if I’m missing any. I’m struggling to find any that were great to watch.

  1. Halo (2007)
  2. Doom (2005)
  3. Alone in the Dark (2005)
  4. Final Fantasy: Advent Children (2004)
  5. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
  6. House of the Dead (2003)
  7. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)
  8. Resident Evil (2002)
  9. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
  10. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
  11. Wing Commander (1999)
  12. Pokemon: The First Movie (1999)
  13. Mortal Kombat (1995)
  14. Double Dragon (1994)
  15. Street Fighter (1994)
  16. Super Mario Brothers (1993)

New Site

Well you may or may not care about where I’ve been spending my time lately, but I thought I would let everyone know anyway. Pat and I have started up another website. This one is definitely a ‘niche’ sort of thing since it pertains to the game that we spend much of our free time on. So I’ve been working on getting that all prettied up for prime time which is reason for some of my neglect here. Sorry ’bout that. Seems like I post alot about not posting. Maybe I should post about that. Hmmm.

Anyway.. I’ll see if I can’t rustle up some pertinent content here soon. But then, what is pertinent? Well that is the beauty of being the author, I get to decide.
