Dell tightens belt

September 30th, 2005
Comments Off

Dell has finally realized that free shipping of their low-end systems costs them money.

Shipping costs amount to $99 or more for three to five-day ground delivery, according to Dell’s Web site, but Davis said free shipping is “very common” because of its popularity among customers.

When you are talking about a system that is less than $500 to begin with, expecting Dell to eat $99 is ludicrous.

And 7 Days Later…

September 28th, 2005

Wow.. a week has gone by and I haven’t posted a thing. Sorry about that. Or maybe you were relieved. Well a few things have happened in the past week which kept my attention, yet I didn’t post them here… hmmm.

I swapped out my Sponsored Links with a new company called AdBrite. They work a little differently than what I was using. With AdBrite, others can actually buy ad space on this site and I can approve/disapprove the ads that get placed. So there is a little more control. We’ll see how it works out. If you have a blog, give AdBrite a shot. Or, by all means, advertise on my site if you’ve got something to sell.

Also, I mentioned that I received a Wordpress.com invite last week. Well, I went to set it up today and the invite doesn’t work anymore. Not sure why. I’m wondering if they had a 7 day expiration on them. I guess that’s what I get for dragging my feet. I’ve resubmitted my email address, hopefully I can get lucky twice.

Well that seems to be sufficient enough for now, maybe I’ll pipe in a little bit later with less, err I mean, more interesting stuff.

Later.

Saddam’s Trial date too soon

September 21st, 2005

The lawyers “will not recognize any date for the trial if it comes within weeks or months,” said Khalil Dulaimi, Saddam’s Iraqi lawyer, in a statement issued from Baghdad.

via AP News | IndyStar.com

Apparently not enough notice has been given to Saddam about the Trial date.

My Question: How would you like to be this guys lawyer?

That job has got to suck big time. Imagine going to a party and people whispering and pointing fingers at you talking about how you are defending Saddam Hussein. Or maybe it would be a good thing if I was his laywer because I would suck at it and he would lose for sure. :) Now there’s a thought.

Golden Ticket Spawns Decision

September 21st, 2005

Well I got my “Golden Ticket” yesterday to Wordpress.com. Now I need to come up with a catchy username since the address will be “<username>.wordpress.com”.

But an even bigger question is what will this blog be about. Everywhere I read, it is advised to stick to a single or small group of subjects because that tends to draw more visitors. But, as you may have figured out by reading this blog, I have trouble narrowing my focus to less than 20 categories, let alone a couple of subjects.

So as I have asked you for advice in the past, I once again and throwing it out there. What do you think my new Wordpress.com blog should be about?

I anxiously await your responses.

Got a new truck!

September 19th, 2005

First, thanks to all of you who gave me some much needed feedback and opinions to my request for advice. I bought an ‘02 Chevy Silverado 1500HD Crew Cab on Sunday, September 19th. Its Green. Its a Truck. I like it. ‘Nuff said.

Anyway, I haven’t taken any pics of it yet. I’ll see if I can’t get on that soon so everyone can see what they helped me pick out. So, that’s it for now. Just wanted to throw that out there. Let me know your thoughts if you have any. Otherwise, see ya.

In desperate need of car advice

September 14th, 2005

Ok.. maybe not desperate, but I need help making a decision. The funny part is, I don’t know yet know that either decision is achievable. As some of you may know, I just bought a new van back in June, for my wife. She had been driving our Expedition and I was driving our old 1994 Plymouth Voyager (please refrain from jokes). Well, now I have the Expedition and am wanting to trade it in on something else. That something else is where I am having a problem.

The practical side of me says that I should be looking at buying a truck (for some reason a Ford truck is what I am hooked on). But the “not-quite-mid-life-crisis” side of me can’t help but REALLY WANT a new(er) Mustang.

Now I already own a ‘65 Mustang, but I’ve got a craving for a more modern pony. Something of the GT caliber. But this is where the more practical side kicks back in and says, “You’ve already got your Mustang, it just needs some love, go and get a truck.”

My wife wants me to get a truck for a few reasons:

  1. A truck can fit all of our family
  2. It would be very nice to be able to haul stuff without borrowing.
  3. Trucks are better suited to take camping (don’t want to take the new van)
  4. Did I mention they can fit our family
  5. …. I’m sure there’s more

I’ve heard, understand, and completely agree with a lot of these reasons, but I still can’t seem to shake this want that I have. So now I ask you, my valuable readers, for any and all advice you may have regarding this situation. If you were posed this same question: Truck or Mustang? What would you do?

Vista is about choice

September 12th, 2005
Comments Off

Looks like Microsoft will be offering up 7 versions of their next generation of Operating Systems. Its all about choice (or confusion if you ask me).

Microsoft plans two general Vista edition categories, which map closely to the two that exist today for Windows XP (XP Home Edition, which includes XP Starter, Home, and Media Center Editions, and XP Professional Edition, which includes XP Pro, Pro x64, and Tablet PC editions). Vista will feature two categories: Home and Business. In the Home category, Microsoft will create four product editions: Vista Starter Edition, Vista Home Basic Edition, Vista Home Premium Edition, and Vista Ultimate Edition (previously known as the “Uber” Edition). The Business category will feature three editions: Vista Small Business Edition, Vista Professional Edition, and Vista Enterprise Edition.

Playing with Sidebar

I’m messing around with my sidebar a little to stuff more info into it and make it look a little different. Let me know if there is something that I change that you think I shouldn’t have or if you have any suggestions on ways I can improve it. Thanks for you patience during these little site tweeks.

Leeroy Jenkins!

September 1st, 2005

In lighter news today, I came across this amusing video on chugnutt.com. Leeroy Jenkins! is apparently a battle cry of some sort in World of Warcraft. In my game-playing I’ve never heard it before, but I find it very funny.

The video itself is a typical group of geeks gathered around in their virtual world preparing for a large battle, when one of them gets tired of waiting and attacks sending the entire group to their death. You may not understand everything that goes on, but you have to appreciate the supreme “geekness” that goes on here.

Anyway, enjoy.
