Well I finally got my Hard Drive Carrier Assemblies from Dell and went to add them into my new server that I installed SBS on. I found out that you can’t add more drives to a RAID 5 array without re-initializing the array, which means reformatting. So basically I’m back to Day 1.
Woo Hoo.

That doesn’t sound right. The RAID controller should have absorbed it into the existing array, after which you should have only needed to re-stripe it.
Or was the problem that Windows did not acknowledge the additional drive? After you increase the size of the array, you need to use DiskPart.exe to extend the logical partition.

I couldn’t figure out how to get it added to the existing array… Every time I tried to add it, it wanted to add it to a new array. I was going to bug you about it today, but you were “away”. Oh well not that big of a deal since I didn’t do much yet to the server.
Normally I would have been around, but I was sick all weekend and slept most of today.
Yuck… its been going around that’s for sure.
