Gentoo Partoo

Well I finally got Gentoo all configured and running. I took a total of about 4 days to get it going with a Gnome desktop and all. Of course that isn’t counting the week of vacation I took in there.

Now the next step is to see if this old box can handle being a game server. I’m going to try to throw Battlefield: Vietnam on there. I’m not sure it has the horsepower to do it, but we’ll see.

Back from Vacation

Well I’m back from vacation. Not gonna post a lot right now. But I have 1135 blog posts to sort through and 500+ emails to filter, so I’m sure I’ll have some stuff to talk about soon. I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I am still alive. Be back soon.

Gentoo

Well I’m installing Gentoo Linux now on an extra box I’ve acquired. Boy is this a long process. But I’ve installed Gentoo before and it is a pretty quick and solid distro. I’m attempting to make this box a dedicated game server, we’ll see if it has the horsepower to do it though. I think it should, but who knows.

My progress so far, I’ve installed 34 of the 78 packages starting with Stage 2 install. For most of you out there reading this, you’ll have no idea what that means, but some of you may. I’m hoping to get the system installed before I leave for vacation on Saturday, but I’m not sure that is going to happen. If not, no big deal. I’ll still have a week to get things running before the LAN party.

Almost Clean

So I almost have my garage completely cleaned out. Is it just me, or have garages gone away from their most basic function of housing vehicles. My garage hasn’t been used for that since the first house I rented many moons ago. For the most part, my garage has been a glorified storage unit. But not anymore I tell you. I already have my Mustang in there….. and soon, I’ll have room for another vehicle. But then, of course, I’m not planning on parking another vehicle in there, because I want to just enjoy the space. The kids no longer have to worry about how they are going to park their bikes in there, and walking through the garage is no longer a challenge.

Ah yes, it only took 10 years…. but it is finally, almost, done. A clean garage…..
