MT Going Commercial

Well it finally looks like MovableType is going commercial. They have set up a new licensing structure with their latest version 3.0. I’m not mad, I saw it coming. When you have a good product that people want, why not make some money with it. It does appear that they will still have a “Free” version for now. But they clearly state that a “Feature” of a paid version is that there is a “guaranteed upgrade path”. Meaning, they may kill the “Free” version at any time. Hopefully they will see the advantage of keeping it alive (that being all of the developers out there who won’t want to pay for doing their free work). We can only wait and see what the future holds.

Say it ain’t so!!!

Ok the nerd in me is going to speak up for a second. The ENTIRE staff of TechTV was fired by “I’m too Big for my britches”-Comcast Cable company. I don’t even get this channel anymore and I am saddened by this. Everytime I was somewhere that had satellite TV or a cable system that had this channel, I was right there watching. Apparently there is no word yet on if any of the shows will survive after things shake out. Why is it whenever big companies buy other companies, the first thing they have to do is fire everyone that made that company attractive to begin with?

Anyway you can read more over at The Laporte Report: Comcast Fires TechTV Staff.

I need a faster machine

“Microsoft is expected to recommend that the “average” Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.”

Needing a Change

I’m getting bored with my current layout and am feeling like I need a change, but I don’t know what that change is, nor where I will find the time to implement the change. I am open to suggestions if anyone has any. I know you all have opinions, let me hear them. Maybe I’ll do something you want, or maybe you’ll inspire me to do the exact opposite of what you want. Who knows?

Keeping in Touch

Well it has been 4 days since my last post… boy has a lot happened. Oh wait. No. Not much has “happened”. “Why?”, you might ask. Well, it is because I’m too dang busy. Have you ever noticed, around this time of year, how you never seem to have time for anything because you are always doing everything. Today has been no exception, although I have found a small amount of time away from cleaning up around my house and fixing up the yard, to ramble on here for a bit. Even in my “break” I am working. I am trying to finish up a client’s website that I have been working on for a while. Its really my first “official” website as a business owner. For those of you who don’t know, my family, one friend, and I have started a web hosting and design business called SliverNet – Web Hosting and Design.

Needless to say this is one of the reasons I’ve been so busy. We seem to be struggling a bit to get off the ground. None of us have much experience running a business of our own, so we aren’t that savvy when it comes to advertising and sales. But, we are all good learners and I have no doubt that we will become successful.

If anyone out there you may know, including yourself, are in need of any Web Hosting or Design services, please consider us. We are small, but I find that small businesses are generally the best ones to work with. You get that extra personal service, and that is one thing we are hoping to achieve.

Oh well, enough self-promotion for now, but really keep us in mind.

Later.
