Thought for the Day

There is more money being spent on breast
Implants and Viagra than on Alzheimer’s research.

This means that by 2020, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Geek Joke

There are four engineers traveling in a car — a mechanical engineer, a chemical engineer, an electrical engineer, and a computer engineer. The car breaks down.

“Sounds to me as if the pistons have seized. We’ll have to strip down the engine before we can get the car working again”, says the mechanical engineer.

“Well”, says the chemical engineer, “it sounded to me as if the fuel might be contaminated. I think we should clear out the fuel system.”

“I thought it might be an grounding problem”, says the electrical engineer, “or maybe a faulty plug lead.”

They all turn to the computer engineer, who up to then had said nothing, and asked “Well, what do you think?”

“Ummm . . . perhaps if we all get out of the car and get back in again?”

Comment on Comments

Apparently some penis is reading my site. I found this comment somewhat amusing. I am guessing that it was intended to be comment spam, but there were no links, keywords, or urls left in the comment. So I’ll let it be because it makes me giggle. :)

Hey all, sorry about neglecting everyone lately. I was reminded today by more than one person that I haven’t posted in a while.

So let me bring you up to speed.

I’m currently on vacation, which isn’t a good excuse for not posting, but we will start with that. I’ve been at what you may call a BlogBlock. I still haven’t found any clear direction on where I want to go with my posts. I seem to be all over the board. I find myself reading alot of technical blogs, yet not really contributing. That gets me wondering if I have anything to contribute. I know I do, I guess I just have trouble gathering my thoughts. I’ve never been a strong writer as most of you can probably tell. That is probably one of the biggest reasons I started this blog, to see if I could improve in an area in which I have lacked. But I find myself facing the same problems I’ve always had, I’m never sure what to write about. I guess until I figure it out, I’ll just continue to ramble about anything that comes to mind. Maybe if I write about anything, something will come to me about the direction I should be going with this. Ah well….. ramble ramble ramble…….

Sick

Well I finally caught the dang cold that everyone seems to have. I’ve been hacking for the last 3 days and haven’t felt like doing much. I actually took the day off from work yesterday which I hardly ever do. I had a temperature Wednesday night so I decided to stay home. I feel much better today, but I am still hacking away. Oh well enough complaining from me for the day… heh heh… yeah right.

Gallery Fixed

Not sure if anyone has noticed but my gallery has been down for almost a month now. When I moved over to my new server, Image::Magick wasn’t installed and working which was screwing it all up. But now that I fixed things everything is back to normal and I will begin adding new pictures soon. Thanks for your patience.

URL Change… Again!

Well… I did it to you again. I went and changed my url. This one wasn’t so drastic… I just got rid of the “/blog”. The final address to this haven is now http://www.arandomact.com. I promise not to change it again for a very long time. For those of you who absolutely refuse to update your links…. I have kindly put a redirect in for you to get you to the right spot. Any questions??? Have a nice day.

Perl Scare

Boy am I glad that is over….. I just spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out how I broke Perl on my server last night. I came to find out that I didn’t break it last night, I broke it on Thursday. I don’t know how many of you deal with Linux ever, but it isn’t the easiest thing to troubleshoot, especially if you aren’t very familiar with a lot of it.
I think Linux, or any *nix, is a good thing and I hope it holds on and gives Microsoft a run for their money, but somebody has got to come up with a better way to install and maintain software. Dependencies are a nightmare. I’ve been told many times these problems arise because I am using RedHat. But I wonder if any other distros have a better answer. Do any of you have much experience with Linux and if so, how do you make sure you don’t install software that is going to kill your other programs? Maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t “get” it. Maybe I’m not….
